Today’s Reading

Today July 10th in the Coptic Kalendar is the Feast Day of
• The Falling Asleep of St. Kyrillos (Cyril) the First, the Twenty- Fourth Pope of Alexandria.
• The Falling Asleep of St. Celestine, Pope of Rome.
In the Russian Kalendar the 45 Martyrs of Nicopolis of Armenia are commemorated and in the Latin Kalendar it is St Veronica Giuliani. May all the Saints in Glory, known and unknown, pray with us and for us through Jesus Christ Our Lord Amen+

Today’s Gospel Reading is taken from the Roman Lectionary:

“At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd”. Look around you, are not the “crowds” abandoned and troubled and are they not like sheep without a shepherd of if they have someone called a “shepherd” are these not wolves and hirelings! Jesus warns us about the false Christs who are the voices of hate and division, of power and position, of money and status, of exclusion and of nationalism. “Troubled and abandoned” is the state of “the church” today and as such the “crowds” grow larger.

Gospel Mt 9:32-38

A demoniac who could not speak was brought to Jesus,
and when the demon was driven out the mute man spoke.
The crowds were amazed and said,
“Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
But the Pharisees said,
“He drives out demons by the prince of demons.”

Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for the harvest.
