Today’s July 28th Reading

Today’s July 28th Gospel Reading according to the OCA/Russian Kalendar:

This is not I repeat not one of the “touchy feely” kind of passages from the mouth of Jesus. I am not entirely certain how some of our more “modern one way is just as good as another” scholars explains away what is clear in the passage.

For centuries the Church has maintained that the “sin against the Holy Spirit” is the rejection of God becuase in rejecting God a person by his or her own choice declares themselves outside of the fellowship and God being God does not force someone into his embrace.

Also the first sentence may explain why there is such a myriad of denominations especially “Old and Independent” ones. Lord knows there are a whole lot of scattering going on these days!

” He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.
Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.
Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

In today’s commemorations it is in the Russian/OCA Kalendar the Feast of the First Seven Deacons of the Church of Jesus Christ, and they are Sts Stephen, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas, in the Coptic Church the Feast of St Mary and the Falling Asleep of St Sosenius the Eunuch and in the Roman Kalendar it is the Feast Day of St Leopold Mandic. May these and all those in that Great Cloud of Witnesses pray with us and for us on our Journey in Faith through Jesus Christ Our Lord Amen+

  1. Let each syllable of each word out of my mouth bear good fruit today-this is my prayer!

  2. Amen
