Today’s August 3rd Reading
Today August 3rd Gospel Reading according to the Roman Lectionary with a comment:
If you decide to speak the truth to power be prepared to be dishonored, excluded, denounced, vilified, and avoided and often so by your friends and kit and ken. If you look for “mighty deeds” in a place where people’s vision does not extend beyond their bellies or their gonads sort of like the Huckabee Chicken Fest do not expect much in the way of Spirit!
Gospel Mt 13:54-58
Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.
They were astonished and said,
“Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?
Is he not the carpenter’s son’
Is not his mother named Mary
and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas’
Are not his sisters all with us’
Where did this man get all this?”
And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and in his own house.”
And he did not work many mighty deeds there
because of their lack of faith.
In the Roll of the Great Cloud we remember according to the Roman Kalendar St Peter Julian Eymard, in the Russian St Cosmas the Hermit of Palestine and in the Coptic St Apamon the Presbyter and Martyr along with St Razhden the Persian to name a few. We ask that these our holy friends pray with us and for us through Jesus Christ Our Lord Amen+
