Revised Reading for Sunday Sabbath October 7th

Today is the 18th Sunday Sabbath after Pentecost in the Russian/OCA Kalendar and the 19th Sunday Sabbath after Pentecost in the Episcopal/Anglican, and the Lutheran (ELCA) Kalendars as well as the Kalendar of the Mar Thomas Church of India. It is the Fourth Sunday Sabbath of the Egyptian Month of Tout in the Coptic Kalendar. It is the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time in the Roman Kalendar.

The Prayer for the Day is taken from the Lutheran (ELCA) Book of Worship.

Prayer of the Day
Sovereign God, you have created us to live in loving community with one another. Form us for life that is faithful and steadfast, and teach us to trust like little children, that we may reflect the image of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

The Collect taken from the BCP.

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

“God has visited his people” does he still? Is this why Jesus came? Is this whom Jesus is. The Faith Catholic says YES!

Luke 7:11-16 (Gospel) is taken from the Russian/OCA Lectionary

11Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.12And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.13When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”14Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”15So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.16Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.”
