Today in the Anglican, Roman, Episcopal and Russain/OCA kalendars is the Feast of St John of Damascus or as he is known in the Roman Canon St John Damascene. It is also the Feast of the Great Martyr Barbara in who is much loved in the Eastern Church along with Sts. Alexander Hotovitsky who was executed by the Bolsheviks and John who was bishop of Polybotum in the Russain/OCA Kalendar. In the Coptic Kalendar today is the 25 day of the Month of Hator in the Christmass Fast and the Day of the Commemoration of the Martyr St Mercurius the Roman Soldier. In the Mar Thoma Church it is Feast of Martyrs Ladies of Marth Barbe- ra and Marth yooliyana. May these and all our Holy Companions pray with us and for us through Jesus Christ Our Lord Amen+
The First Collect, amended, from the American BCP.
Confirm our minds, O Lord, in the mysteries of the true faith, set forth with power by your servant John of Damascus and with the help of his prayers, that we, with him, confessing Jesus to be true God and true Man, and singing the praises of the risen Lord, may, by the power of the resurrection, attain to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
